Educational Leaders and the Use of Blogs

Blogs are a quick and easy way to share information. As an educational leader or administrator I would use a blog as a mass communication tool. Teachers, parents, students, and community members could have access to information and the ability to post questions at their convenience. Surveys could be posted to gain parental feedback. I think blogs are a very useful tool because all of your information is in one place. It is up to date and easy to edit outside the school. The current websites my district uses have to be edited from school which is not as convenient and they are not interactive like a blog. I use a blog in my classroom for my kids to practice writing and technology skills, but would to use one as a communication tool between the school and community.

  1. Keri--I agree with your thought about websites being cumbersome to update. We have class websites that we are supposed to keep updated, but it is just so difficult sometimes to manipulate the data you want posted, etc. Blogs are a much more convenient way to keep information updated.

  2. I think it's great that you are already using a blog in your classroom! I agree that blogs are much more convenient than the regular school website, and like the way that parents and the community can interact by asking questions or giving feedback in the comments.

  3. I like the idea of putting surveys on the blog, Keri. My school does an annual school climate survey and it's hard to get parents to come in and take it. We post the link to the schools webpage but I bet if we had an interactive blog we'd get more feedback.

  4. We use teacher web pages to communicate information to the parents and students. I find them much harder to navigate than the blog has been. I also like how you are able to personalize your blog so much. I have never used a blog before, but I bet it would be very helpful in my classroom. Do many of the parents and students leave comments on your blog, or do most of them use e-mail?

  5. Like Lisa, our campus has teacher websites as well as separate webpages for the various programs and activities that students can join and be a part of. I enjoy the use of technology and it has served as a good tool for communicating information to students, parents, and staff. However, all the different locations in which we need to post is quite tiring.
